The 2004 Château Mouton Rothschild grapes were harvested in the driest year since 1962, although some belated rainfall in August gave a much needed boost.
The blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot is full of polyphenols and has an excellent concentration of sugar.
The result is a full, dark and strong colour displaying a subtle nose of black cherry, candied quince and liquorice. The attack is rich with precise tannins reflecting elegant notes of mocha and toasted aromas.
"A wine that is powerful, highly extracted and intense. The chocolate flavors and serious, dry tannins go with big, fat blackberry fruits and finishing acidity." Wine Enthusiast.
The Château Mouton Rothschild 2004 is on a fast evolutionary track, so consume this over the next 10 - 15 years.
