He Maipo Valley’s 2019 vintage was defined by dryness, which drastically lowered yields. Fortunately, the grapes that emerged were phenomenal—some of the tiniest, most densely concentrated clusters that growers had seen in years.
Almaviva 2019 shows a vibrant purple hue. Aromas of black currant, blueberry, bay leaf, rose petals, mint, violets, toast, and cloves burst from the glass. As expansive as the nose is, it is buttoned up and tightly wound on the palate. Finely grained tannins hit in layers, adding breadth to the focused freshness of the acidity, with complex flavors of blackberry, mocha, fresh tobacco, mint, and a touch of smoke. The long and evolving finish seems nearly endless.
Blend: 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Carmenère, 5% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Merlot
