Château Berliquet 2008 is from one of the oldest estates in the Saint-Émilion region dating back to 1768. In 2017, it was bought by Maison Chanel of fashion fame (who also owns Château Canon on its borders) and is under the guidance now of winemaker Stéphane Derenoncourt.
With a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, the nose is black fruits, flowers and licorice with a savoury finish of aniseed, berries and red meat.
On the tongue it's quite fruity and surprisingly muscular. Fresh dark ripe red fruit, soft tannins, and some leafy touches. Very subtle wine, lacks some structure but has good freshness and balanced acidity.
The 2008 Château Berliquet is subtle and "represents a huge improvement" according to James Suckling, Wine Spectator April 2009 and well worth a try.
